Tough Life-Big God, is still available. Tough Life, Big God Volume 2 is now ready!!!
Also, you can check out my blogs at www.docdeer.wordpress.com and www.rekindledliving.wordpress.com (check out the Studies at CHBC category for our sermon and Bible study summaries). Each one is different, but both have things you might find helpful in your walk with God.
6 Therefore, let everyone who is godly pray to You in a time when You may be found; – Psalm 32:6, NASB
We base so many decisions on time. Just look at this morning. The alarm goes off and we immediately calculate how many times we can hit the snooze button, and still manage to get ready on time. Once we’re dressed, we begin to juggle whether to skip breakfast, eat toast on the run, or whip through Mickey-D’s depending on what time it is. Our route to work is based upon the time of day. We don’t want to get stuck in traffic you know. Virtually every decision from the moment we wiped the sleep from our eyes until we log into the office computer is based on time. Time rules our day. Get one thing out of sync, and the whole day is thrown off kilter.
Timing is everything. While this is true in our daily lives, it’s also true in regard to our spiritual walk. It’s not just what we do. It’s when we do it. King David had committed murder and adultery. He had tried to hide his sins from God and everyone else. As a result, his life was miserable. Finally, a friend and advisor named Nathan confronted him, and David confessed his sin to God.
It’s great that David confessed. He shares his experiences regarding this in the opening verses of Psalms 32. Then, he gives us this great piece of advice. He says that we need to be timely in our approach to God. My family recently bought me Wii Fit for a gift (I wonder what they’re trying to say?). There is a game in it where you have to step in rhythm on and off the balance board. If you time it right, you score a perfect. I don’t usually score a perfect. I step on too early or step off too late. I usually manage to score an “O.K.”
For many of us, our reaction to God is “O.K.” Like David, we linger far too long in our sin. We stay captive in the guilt and shame of wrong longer than we need to. We run. We hide. We lie to Him and to ourselves. All the while, God offers us forgiveness and restoration. He is there waiting, longing to be part of our lives again. Yet, we hesitate. We refuse to take a step to Him.
David challenges us to seek God while He may be found. There is no reason for us to stay anchored to yesterday’s defeats and failures. Peace and restoration are available. God is there, hand outstretched. We need to take it.
