e-votional
a message to encourage and uplift from College Heights Baptist Church
Wednesday March 11, 2009
If you would like any of the previous e-votionals, just reply to this email and let me know. Likewise, if you would like to stop receiving them.
The first twenty-six e-votionals (including a gospel presentation) are now in a printed booklet. The booklet, entitled Tough Life-Big God, is now available. The cost is $2 per book. You can email us if you would like to reserve a copy (or copies), or just pick some up on whenever the church is open.
Also, you can check out my blogs at www.docdeer.wordpress.com and www.rekindledliving.wordpress.com. Each one is different, but both have things you might find helpful in your walk with God.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven. – Matthew 6:10 (NASB)
My wife and I have always tried to raise our kids to be respectful. One of our early goals was that our children would behave as well for other people as they do in our presence. By and large, they have all honored our desire (as far as we know anyway). Whether we want to admit it or not, it seems to be human nature for us to act differently when we are away from authority. You’ve heard the phrase, “when the cat’s away, the mice will play.” This is true in the classroom as well as the office place. We just behave different when the boss is gone.
Jesus teaches us to pray that God’s will unfold on earth exactly like it does in heaven. Can you imagine how things get done in heaven? I know that it might be difficult at first. We don’t see a lot of biblical texts dealing with the subject, but just imagine for a moment. God pages an angel to respond to some task. A couple of angels within earshot begin bickering about who answered God last time. An angel in the middle of some other project simply “doesn’t have the time to go.” Yet another is dozed off in a chair somewhere. Thus, God’s desire is delayed or goes undone.
This scenario seems entirely ludicrous to us doesn’t it? Yet this happens every day in our lives. God moves in our lives every day. He speaks to us about things that need to get done. He burdens us with people who need to be touched by His love. He calls us to grow in our walk with Him. He challenges us to change some things about the way we live. Every day He speaks. Far too often, however, we offer nothing back but an excuse. I’m too tired. I’m too busy. I would, but I can’t.
We seem to always be too busy doing something else to do God’s will. That’s why we pray for His will to be done here as it is in heaven. We may not know exactly how things transpire in heaven, but we can be sure that when God desires something the response is swift. His will gets done. We need to remember that God is not limited to heaven. He is here. When He calls, we must answer. Where He leads, we must go. His will must be done. Here. Now. Just like in heaven.
